Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro - Teresa Berganza "Voi Che Sapete"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBVVJlDiQwc

Voi che sapete che cosa e amor,
Donne, vedete, s'io l'ho nel cor,
Donne, vedete, s'io l'ho nel cor.
Quello ch'io provo, vi ridiro,
E per me nuovo capir nol so.
Sento un affetto pien di desir,
Ch'ora e diletto, ch'ora e martir.
Gelo e poi sento l'alma avvampar,
E in un momento torno a gelar.
Ricerco un bene fuori di me,
Non so chi il tiene, non so cos' e.
Sospiro e gemo senza voler,
Palpito e tremo senza saper,
Non trovo pace notte ne di,
Ma pur mi piace languir cosi.
Voi, che sapete che cosa e amor
Donne, vedete, s'io l'ho nel cor,
Donne, vedete, s'io l'ho nel cor,
Donne, vedete, s'io l'ho nel cor.

Translation
You who know what love is,
Ladies, see if I have it in my heart.
I'll tell you what I'm feeling,
It's new for me, and I understand nothing.
I have a feeling, full of desire,
Which is by turns delightful and miserable.
I freeze and then feel my soul go up in flames,
Then in a moment I turn to ice.
I'm searching for affection outside of myself,
I don't know how to hold it, nor even what it is!
I sigh and lament without wanting to,
I twitter and tremble without knowing why,
I find peace neither night nor day,
But still I rather enjoy languishing this way.
You who know what love is,
Ladies, see if I have it in my heart.

Dire Straits – “Sultans Of Swing”

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xo-J1wf2KHc

You get a shiver in the dark,
It's raining in the park but meantime.
South of the river you stop and you hold everything,
A band is blowing Dixie double four time.
You feel alright when you hear that music ring.

You step inside, but you don't see too many faces,
Coming in out of the rain, to hear the jazz go down.
Too much competition too many other places,
But not too many horns can make that sound.
Way on down south, way on down south, London town.

You check out Guitar George, he knows all the chords.
Mind he's strictly rhythm, he doesn't want to make it cry or sing.
And an old guitar is all he can afford,
When he gets up under the lights to play his thing.

And Harry doesn't mind, if he doesn't make the scene.
He's got a daytime job, he's doing alright,
He can play honky-tonk just like anything,
Saving it up, for Friday night,
With the Sultans, with the Sultans of Swing.

And a crowd of young boys, they're fooling around in the corner.
Drunk and dressed in their best brown baggies and their platform soles.
The don't give a damn about any trumpet playing band,
It ain't what they call rock and roll.
And the Sultans played Creole.

And then the man, he steps right up to the microphone,
And says at last, just as the time bell rings,
'Thank you goodnight now it's time to go home'
and he makes it fast with one more thing,
'We are the Sultans of Swing.'

The Killers - Romeo and Juliet

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=87cLyBR1JTo

A lovestruck Romeo, sees the street's a serenade,
Laying everybody low with a lovesong that he made.
Finds a convenient street light, steps out of the shade,
Says something like 'You and me Babe, how about it?'

Juliet says "Hey it's Romeo, you nearly gave me a heart attack."
He's underneath the window, she's singing "Hey la my boyfriend's back.
You shouldn't come around here, singing up at people like that.
Anyway, what you gonna do about it?"

"Juliet, the dice was loaded from the start,
And I bet, that you exploded in my heart,
And I forget, I forget, the movie song.
When you gonna realise it was just that the time was wrong, Juliet?"

Come up on different streets, they both were streets of shame.
Both dirty, both mean, yes and the dream was just the same.
"Then I dreamed your dream for you, and now your dream is real.
How can you look at me as if I was just another one of your deals?"

"When you can fall for chains of silver, you can fall for chains of gold.
You can fall for pretty strangers, and the promises they hold.
You promised me everything. You promised me thick and thin yeah
Now you just say 'Oh Romeo, yeah, you know I used to have a scene with him.'"

"Juliet, when we made love you used to cry.
You said 'I love you like the stars above and I love you till I die',
And there's a place for us, you know the movie song.
When you gonna realise it was just that the time was wrong, Juliet?"

I can't do the talk, like the talk on the TV.
And I can't do a love song, like the way it's meant to be.
I can't do everything, but I'd do anything for you.
I can't do anything except be in love you.

And all I do is miss you, and the way we used to be,
And all I do is keep the beat, the bad company.
All I do is kiss you, through the bars of Orion,
Juliet, I'd do the stars with you any time.

Juliet, when we made love you used to cry.
You said 'I love you like the stars above, I'll love you till I die'
And there's a place for us, you know the movie song.
When you gonna realise, it was just that the time was wrong, Juliet?"

A lovestruck Romeo, sings the streets a serenade,
Laying everybody low, with a lovesong that he made.
He finds a convenient streetlight, steps out of the shade
Says something like 'You and me, Babe, how about it?'

The Small Faces - "Tin Soldier"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wcKZoFRpZCI

I am a little tin soldier,
That wants to jump into your fire.
You are a look in your eye,
A dream passing by in the sky.

But I don't understand,
And all I need, is treat me like a man,
'Cause I ain't no child,
Take me like I am.

I got to know that I belong to you,
I do anything that you want to do.
I'll sing any so song that you want me to sing to you.

I don't need no aggravation.
I just got to make you,
Got, I said listen, I just got to make you, yes, my occupation.

I got to know that I belong to you,
I'd do anything that you want to do.
I'd sing any so song that you want me to, sing to you.

All I need is your whispered hello,
Smiles melting the snow.
Nothing heard,
Your eyes, are deeper than time.
Say a love that won't rhyme without words,
So now I've lost my way.
I need help to show me things to say.
Just give me your love, before mine fades away.

I got to know that I belong to you,
I'll do anything that you want to do.
I'll sing any so song that you want me to sing to you.

Oh yeah....oh yeah.

Hey! I just want some reaction,
Someone to give me satisfaction.
All I want to do is stick with you,
'Cause I love you.

Georges Bizet - Carmen: Teresa Berganza sings Habanera

Quand je vous aimerai? When will I love you?
Ma foi, je ne sais pas, Good lord, I don't know,
Peut-être jamais, peut-être demain. Maybe never, maybe tomorrow.
Mais pas aujourd'hui, c'est certain. But not today, that's certain.

L'amour est un oiseau rebelle Love is a rebellious bird
Que nul ne peut apprivoiser, That nothing can tame,
Et c'est bien en vain qu'on l'appelle, And it is simply in vain to call it
S'il lui convient de refuser. If it is convient for it to refuse.
Rien n'y fait, menace ou prière, Nothing will work, threat or pleading,
L'un parle bien, l'autre se tait; One speaks, the other stays quiet;
Et c'est l'autre que je préfère And it's the other that I prefer
Il n'a rien dit; mais il me plaît. He said nothing; but he pleases me.
L'amour! L'amour! L'amour! L'amour! Love! Love! Love! Love!

L'amour est enfant de Bohême, Love is the child of the Bohemian,
Il n'a jamais, jamais connu de loi, It has never, never known any law,
Si tu ne m'aime pas, je t'aime, If you don't love me, I love you,
Si je t'aime, prend garde à toi! If I love you, keep guard of yourself!
Si tu ne m'aime pas, If you don't love me,
Si tu ne m'aime pas, je t'aime! If you don't love me, I love you!
Mais, si je t'aime, But, if I love you,
Si je t'aime, prend garde à toi! If I love you, keep guard of yourself!
Si tu ne m'aime pas, If you don't love me,
Si tu ne m'aime pas, je t'aime! If you don't love me, I love you!
Mais, si je t'aime, But, if I love you,
Si je t'aime, prend garde à toi! If I love you, keep guard of yourself!

L'oiseau que tu croyais surprendre The bird you thought to surprise
Battit de l'aile et s'envola; Bat its wing and flew away;
L'amour est loin, tu peux l'attendre; Love is far away, you can wait for it;
Tu ne l'attend plus, il est là! If you wait for it no more, it is there!
Tout autour de toi vite, vite, All around you, quickly, quickly,
Il vient, s'en va, puis il revient! It comes, goes, then it comes back!
Tu crois le tenir, il t'évite; You think to hold it, it avoids you;
Tu crois l'éviter, il te tient! You think to avoid it, it holds you!
L'amour, l'amour, l'amour, l'amour! Love, love, love, love!

I do own the original CD.

I go crazy on the weekend.
Coming last, speaking, I'm a freak.
Wasted all my money
On some brown-faced honey now,
I can hardly speak.

Dream, dream. You are just a lucky star
So loud I blow my lungs away.
Think I'm gonna be somebody
Feels like I'm looooo...
Losing my way. Losing my way.

I'm a sucker for my woman.
Hair, legs, breast, and feet.
Wasted all my money now,
No it ain't funny
We can't even eat.

Dream, dream.
You are just a lucky star,
So light on, I blow my lungs away
Dream dream,
Think I'm gonna be somebody.
Feels like I'm looo ....
Losing my way.
Losing my way.
Loooo oh oh losing my way.

Wolfgang A. Mozart - "Symphony No. 40 in G minor (KV. 550); first movement"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xvtoqE33iZg&feature=relmfu

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s 40th Symphony, or the G minor Symphony (which Wagner calls a work of “indestructible beauty”) was a product of Mozart’s personal travail he was experiencing during the time its composition. It does have an air of tragedy reflected even in the choice of the G minor key, which is associated with tragic emotions. The same key was used in The Magic Flute, in Pamina’s aria “Ach ich fuhls” as she wishes for death, and such works as the Symphony No. 25, the String Quartet K.478 share the same emotional climate. F.J. Fétis, a biographer, wrote “Although Mozart has not used formidable orchestral forces in his G minor Symphony, none of the sweeping and massive effects one meets in a symphony of Beethoven, the invention which flames his work, the accents of passion and energy that pervade and the melancholy colour that dominates it result in one of the most beautiful manifestations of the human spirit.” According to musicologist Eric Blom, in this symphony, Mozart blended romanticism with the Classical perfection of formal balances so that they meet in perfect equilibrium: “It is in this respect at least the perfect musical work.” (from http://factoidz.com/mozarts-symphony-no-40-a-work-of-indestructible-beauty/)
